چکیده

Č́ıžek, Zamastil, and Skála [J. Math. Phys. 44, 962 – 968 (2003)] introduced in connection with the summation of the divergent perturbation expansion of the hydrogen atom in an external magnetic field a new sequence transformation which uses as input data not only the elements of a sequence {sn} ∞ n=0 of partial sums, but also explicit estimates {ωn} ∞ n=0 for the truncation errors. The explicit incorporation of the information contained in the truncation error estimates makes this and related transformations potentially much more powerful than for instance Padé approximants. Special cases of the new transformation are sequence transformations introduced by Levin [Int. J. Comput. Math. B 3, 371 – 388 (1973)] and Weniger [Comput. Phys. Rep. 10, 189 – 371 (1989), Sections 7 -9; Numer. Algor. 3, 477 – 486 (1992)] and also a variant of Richardson extrapolation [Phil. Trans. Roy. Soc. London A 226, 299 – 349 (1927)]. The algebraic theory of these transformations – explicit expressions, recurrence formulas, explicit expressions in the case of special remainder estimates, and asymptotic order estimates satisfied by rational approximants to power series – is formulated in terms of hitherto unknown mathematical properties of the new transformation introduced by Č́ıžek, Zamastil, and Skála. This leads to a considerable formal simplification and unification.

Addendum to: "Infinite-dimensional versions of the primary, cyclic and Jordan decompositions", by M. Radjabalipour

In his paper mentioned in the title, which appears in the same issue of this journal, Mehdi Radjabalipour derives the cyclic decomposition of an algebraic linear transformation. A more general structure theory for linear transformations appears in Irving Kaplansky's lovely 1954 book on infinite abelian groups. We present a translation of Kaplansky's results for abelian groups into the terminolo...

An algebraic calculation method for describing time-dependent processes in electrochemistry – Expansion of existing procedures

In this paper an alternative model allowing the extension of the Debye-Hückel Theory (DHT) considering time dependence explicitly is presented. From the Electro-Quasistatic approach (EQS) introduced in earlier studies time dependent potentials are suitable to describe several phenomena especially conducting media as well as the behaviour of charged particles (ions) in electrolytes. This leads t...

New Criteria for Existence of a Class of Generalized Euler-types Constants

One of the most important mathematical constants is Euler-Mascheroni constant that is the limit of the sequence --------------------------------  and is denoted by gamma. Some other developed constants known as Euler type constants are introduced in order to generalize the above constant. In the present paper, inspired by the functional sequence derivative of the limit summand of functions (i...

On Remainder Estimates for Levin-type Sequence Transformations

Remainder estimates for Levin-type sequence transformations are discussed. A new remainder estimate is introduced which is related to the Kummer transformation. Test cases are presented which show that the new remainder estimate can enhance the performance of Levin-type sequence transformations considerably.
